Can't my accountant or a friend or relative do projections for me or show me how to do them?

Yes, for some people that would work. But for the most part, accountants deal with monthly financials -- income statements and balance sheets, for example -- and not projections that affect day-to-day planning and operations, our expertise. We work with you to set up projection worksheets that can grow smoothly with you and show you how to change them as needed. ~*~*~ About friends or relatives helping you, usually part-time: it is our experience that that works initially, but only for awhile. Here's what usually happens: the business grows too large or too quickly for the friend or relative to respond to requests to update the projection spreadsheet in a timely manner or accurately. The good intentions are there; the time usually isn't. ~*~*~ Changes in the way business the business runs usually mean the projection calculations need to change a bit. That's why we believe in teaching you to make those changes and not rely on us. As always, though, we are there to back you up if you want the help.

What if I need to change the way I've built a projection after we’re done?

That’s the same as asking, “What if I change the way I do business?” First of all, hopefully through our appointments together you’ve learned enough to make the changes on your own. Unless you've completely changed the way you do business, you can make the changes yourself. Or, we should be able to make the changes to your projection in one appointment and you can take care of the rest. If you don’t have the time, we can do them for you. In any case, we are always there for support.

What if I need new kinds of “What ifs?” in the projection?

That depends on the “What ifs!” If they are “mild,” hopefully you can do that on your own from what you learned during our appointments together. If not, we arrange another appointment to see just what you need and tackle one or two together. From watching how we add those, you can probably add the rest. If you don’t have the time, we can do them for you. In any case, we are always there for support.

Since you’re located in the Denver area, how do we work together if I'm not?

With today’s technology, it’s easy! We use remote connection software that enables our associate to connect to your PC or Mac. (You don't need that software on your computer.) When he or she types on the keyboard or moves the mouse, it is your keyboard and mouse that reacts. It's as if our associate were sitting next to you! We talk by phone and teach you how to do the projection by showing a little on the computer and your doing a lot. You learn proactively. You may have had a technical support person help you the same way.

If you are in a service business, why is your goal for me to be self-sufficient?

Simple. We believe we serve you best by saving you time and money so we teach you to do the services we provide on your own. We do want a long-term relationship with you so we can support you when you want the help.

You say you encourage me to be self-sufficient. Do you provide support after our initial appointments?

Definitely! We want a long-term relationship with you. However, we believe we provide the best service by saving as much of your time and money as possible. We maintain copies of all the work we complete together and encourage you to send us copies of the projections you do on your own so we can keep in step with you. Often, we can answer a question with a brief call or email for which there is no charge; it's part of our relationship with you.

Are your clients exclusively the newly self-employed and owners of new small businesses?

No. They are our primary client base. However, if there's a good fit, we do work with established or larger companies.

What if I’m not satisfied with your service?

We don't want you to be satisfied with our service. We want you to be THRILLED with our service!!! ~*~*~ However, we are both aware that not all relationships go well for any number of reasons. We’ll know during the first appointment whether we are a good fit. If we're not, we’ll simply stop, say thank you, and there will be no charge. Completing that first appointment will show we have all or much of the first projection built, and that we're working well together. ~*~*~ We are aware that each time you are THRILLED with our service, we raise the bar to maintain or exceed that expectation for you. That is our pleasure!

How long have you been in business?

By the Numbers was established in June, 2010. However, the experience of its associates adds up to over 30 years in Information Technology, 25 of which was running small Information Technology businesses and 20 of which is in business modeling and databases, and doing projections in Excel. So while the name is new, the experience is well-established.

What kind of customized Excel training do you offer?

You’re busy with your business and probably don’t have time to take general Excel classes. We offer one-on-one classes focused on your business. You tell us what you are trying to accomplish for your business, and we show you exactly how to use Excel to accomplish your goals. An optional part of the service is to document what’s being taught so you can repeat the tasks later on your own.

To save my time and money, do you have templates of projections to start working from?

Absolutely! To support clients, we always keep password-protected copies of their projections. Your business might resemble one for which we already have a projection. We make a copy, erase the sensitive data, start one for you, and we begin altering it to fit your business exactly. This saves the time and money to build the projection from scratch. However! By creating the projection this way, you miss the opportunity to learn how to do one from scratch, which is valuable knowledge. For that reason, we recommend to start from the beginning. © 2010 BTN-now.com
